Nemo

Yesterday morning, something got to our baby chicks :(  Two were missing and one was dead.  We thought we had a secure enough spot for them.  We think they were sleeping next to the chicken wire because the wire is undisturbed and the pen was not moved.  I think it was a cat or a racoon because 3 of the remaining chicks have scratches on them and one is missing a wing.  They all seem to be doing fine though.  One has a really good cut and I have been researching how to treat chicken cuts.

My husband was being a party pooper and would not join in with us naming them, but when he saw this one with the mangled wing, he said "her name is Nemo."  I think that fits just right! :)

  2. Oh yes, they checked on the chicks first and ran in the house hollering and squalling! I didn't know what had happened.

  3. Looking at the pen you built, if that was outside, it was raccoons. They can reach through the chicken wire. You'll have to put it in a secure building. Those coons are nasty.

  4. That is what I was thinking! We have boarded up around the pen and they were fine last night, hoping for the same tonight!

  5. Oh Kelly, I'm so sad for you, but I love the name. We have a baby bunny with no ears because of an accident, too. It'll be interesting to see what name he ends with. I'd love for you to share this post on my blog's homesteading link-up. http://littlefarminthebigcity.blogspot.com/2012/04/homestead-helps-wednesday-homestead-hop_11.html

  6. I'm a member of a forum where I get a lot of advice about a TON of stuff for chickens and other fowl. It's called Back Yard Chickens. There are a LOT of people there with great advice. I have a link on my blog if you want to check it out, or you can google it. :-)
So sorry for your losses, but I'm glad that the others are safe! :-)
